What to expect
Welcome to Empower yourself, dear feeler*! Here's what to expect:
This course includes:
Essential education on emotions. Learn the neurobiology and evolutionary purpose of your emotions. Walk away with a concrete understanding of what emotions are and skillful ways to work with them.
Self-reflection & experiential learning. Through emotional mindfulness practices and reflection prompts. Deepen your relationship with yourself. Cultivate awareness of your inner world.
Video lessons. That feed your thinking brain. Each section provides background material on the subject. Take notes, print out slides. Gain frameworks you can carry forward.
Yoga practices. Each section includes mindfulness and embodiment practices to explore what you learn in your own mind and body. Explore gentle experiential exercises to apply what you learn.
Trauma-informed material, all the way. Your health and safety are top priority. Everything offered integrates trauma-informed practices to ensure that inner exploration is done in a safe and responsible way.
How to make the most of this course
Here’s the best way to do so:
Go at your own pace. There’s no rush. The self-paced material invites you to jump around, stop and explore, and ease into the material in a way that’s right for you.
Use yoga practices for support or exploration. The yoga practices can be used in 2 different ways: 1) To support you with emotional energy you are feeling in the moment (anger, sadness, overwhelm..). Or 2) to explore how certain emotions show up in your mind and body through conjuring memories. Both are valuable. You can return to the practices again and again.
Journal as you go. Especially after the yoga practices. What sensations did you notice in your body? What defenses came up for you around that emotion? Everyone's different. This course is an opportunity to understand your uniqueness.
Share your reflections in the comments section. In We Heal For All spaces, we use this Community Agreement to guide how we show up and practice being in relationship with each other. They're things that help make the space as supportive and constructive for as many as possible.
Step back & reach out if you need additional support. If at any point during the course (especially during the yoga practices) something doesn’t feel right for you then please stop. It may mean that you need the support of an emotionally-safe person to process what you’re experiencing. This is very normal. I recommend finding a trauma-informed or emotions-centered therapist or coach. I'm happy to help you find one (my husband's a psychiatrist & psychotherapist - so we have a great network to tap into!). You can learn about my healing practice here.
