Welcome 🌿 What's here?

Welcome to this package of facilitation tools for processing eco-emotions.

For those I haven’t met, my name’s Liz. Over the past several years I've been facilitating healing-oriented Circles on behalf of global and cultural topics for hundreds of people, with a big focus on climate justice.

This is a curated package of some of my favorite healing-centered facilitation practices for eco-emotions. They’re exercises you can use in your next workshop, community gathering, retreat, meeting, or Circle on climate change.

The tools are designed to support people to slow down and explore what they’re feeling about climate injustice in a safe and constructive way. They’re trauma-informed and use some form of mindfulness, contemplation, creativity, or internal observation to invite participants to get to know and process the eco-emotions they feel.

You’re welcome to take the exercises you see here and use them as-is. You also have my blessing to adapt them or use them as inspiration.

What is here?

The tools shared here can be used at various parts of a workshop or gathering. Each tool includes information about when it might be best used (i.e. after heartfelt sharing, to prompt reflection, to help people arrive and settle, etc), background information and the intention of the tool, and recommended steps for using it.

Here’s what’s included -

  • Opening land acknowledgment - support people to connect with the land they’re on, its history, and the intention of why you’re coming together.

  • What we know mindfulness exercise - invite participants to notice what they notice within themselves as they listen to an account of the state of our climate.

  • Human patterns of disconnection - offer the group a framing of the climate crisis that invites reflection on the deeper paradigmatic patterns at play within society and within ourselves.

  • Personifying climate feelings - use creativity and imagination to help participants get to know their eco-emotions by asking them to describe them as if they are a person.

  • Body scan & Gaia guided meditation - a beautiful way to help participants process and integrate emotional energy after sharing or listening; a guided meditation that connects a person’s body with the Earth body they are inherently part of.
